The fire resistance of a material provides invaluable information for evaluating the performance of a sample and its components.
The vertical fire resistance test furnace provides a method to quantify the ability of products and materials to withstand high temperature exposure in a vertical orientation.
The furnace can be used to evaluate the fire resistance of products such as walls, doors, dampers, joints and penetration seals.
This is done by calculating a number of functions, including;
Load bearing capacity, fire resistance and thermal transmittance of the tested component.
1. Fire resistance test furnace with inner chamber dimensions:3000mm(W) x 3000mm(H) x 1300mm(D)
2. Ability to perform tests on vertical specimens mounted on a custom restrained frame
3. Refractory lining consists of insulated refractory bricks, refractory castables and mineral plates.
4. Roof made of profiled bricks, anchored with cast-in-place refractory.
5. The shell is made of mild steel plates reinforced with c-beams, I-beams and sections to prevent structural deformation due to high temperatures.
6. The sample restraining frame is mounted at the front end of the furnace and is held in place by at least 4 sets of door clamps.
7. Steel shell lined with mineral fiber plates on the cold side and refractory insulated bricks on the hot side secured to the walls with high temperature cast in-situ blocks.
8. 4 sets of viewing ports provided by heat resistant quartz glass at strategic locations on the long side walls.
This will allow the operator to view the complete test specimen during the fire test.
9. Sliding doors are made of lightweight aluminum oxide enclosed in an insulated air-cooled frame.
This will shield the furnace from heat when the viewing port is not in use.
10. 12 sets of special glowing flame burners.
Each burner has a flame supervision unit to ensure that all combustion units operate in fail-safe mode.
11. Furnace combustion control panels are designed for both fully automatic and manual control modes.
Automatic ignition of the burners is by using a push button switch, which is used to ignite the burners according to a pre-set heating profile as described in BS 476 Parts 20-24, EN 1363 and IMO hydrocarbon profile.
Manual burner control allows the ignition of individual burners at will.
LP Gas Industrial Refractory Illuminated Soft Flame Burners
In the vertical furnace position, six burners are installed to the left and right of the furnace wall.
Each burner is designed to run on LP gas and incorporates all necessary flame safety systems, intermittent pilot systems and temperature sensors.
Lifting and restraining frames for specimens
Two sets of frames are provided for mounting vertical specimens.
The refractory liners are made of prefabricated refractory blocks anchored to the steel frames.
These frames are non-load-bearing frames.
A separately customized lifting frame with two side hooks is provided to lift the specimen restraint frame into the furnace chamber.
This allows easy placement of the vertical and horizontal restraint frames into the furnace.
Refractory-lined connecting duct and exhaust chimney
The chimney/stack is constructed of 9 mm thick mild steel with a refractory-lined head of 6 m. The chimney/stack is constructed of 9 mm thick mild steel with a refractory-lined head.
The chimney extends at least 3 meters above the plant roof as required by local codes.
Combustion air blower for the furnace burner
The combustion air system was pre-piped and tested prior to dispatch.
Temperature sensors and pressure gauges
The system was equipped with nine type K thermocouples and flat plate thermometers, a manometer and an ambient thermocouple assembly.
The PLC system consists of a Siemens PLC CPU and Siemens compatible remote I/O.
The flame-resistant data management software is custom written to accept and save data collected during the test and is configured to meet the heating requirements of BS 476 Parts 20 - 22, EN 1363 and IMO hydrocarbon test curves.
Other standard time-temperature profiles can also be pre-programmed into the system.
The PLC controller incorporates a built-in operator interface containing the required logging and programming functions and includes all necessary motor starters for all motors in the system.
The system provides real-time heating profiles and displays all furnace control information on the computer screen.
